Introduction to Basic Beekeeping

If you have ever thought of owning a colony of honey bees but have been deterred by not knowing exactly what is involved, or are simply curious, then this one day workshop is for you!

PROGRAMME

Session 1: Life history of the honey bee

Honey bees are wild creatures and can only be manipulated. A basic understanding of the bees' life cycle is essential in order to successfully manage a colony of bees.

Session 2: Equipment

This practical session will describe all the equipment you will need to manage a colony of bees, the choices available, and provide the opportunity to examine it in detail.

Session 3: Matters to consider

Where could I put my bees? How much work is involved? These issues and all the others you need to consider before acquiring bees will be fully covered.

Session 4: Other things you should know

Why bees are important, where to site hives, how to treat bee stings, how to keep your bees healthy, how to extract honey? This session will cover these issues and many more.

Location: Forrest Hills, Hazelrigg Lane, Ellel LA2 0PL

Times: 10-00am to 4-00pm

Cost: £60 per person inclusive of comprehensive notes and lunch.

Note: The workshop is limited to 40 places and early booking is strongly advised.
