Monthly meeting August 2007
Augusts meeting was held on Saturday 18th at Colin & Jeans, and we were delighted to welcome Christine Allen, who came from Dalton-in-Furness to demonstrate to us the art of skep making. Richard, Gordon, Peter and George had prepared some skep making hand tools and wooden discs, and Linda had collected a supply of straw. Christine talked us through the process and demonstrated how to start the skep off, and then a dozen members of the club began their masterpieces, ably supervised by Christine. We had an entertaining, informative and productive day, with plenty of hilarity. It was a bit like Blue Peter, with everybody industriously making their own skep.

Meanwhile, others had a general chat in the conservatory. Stu brought the new observation hive to show us, which Fred has purchased as part of the lottery project. We had a general chat chat about bee-keeping and introduced some new members to the club, giving them some guidance on their new hobby.
We are extremely grateful to Christine Allen and her Mother for coming to demonstrate skep making to us, and for all the effort she put in to make this such a successful day. Thanks to all who contributed, and a big thank-you to Colin and Jean for their hospitality.
